Admissions - Introduction

The first step on the road to an admission to Canford is to visit the school.    There are two options.  You are welcome to contact the Admissions Office to arrange an appointment to meet the Headmaster and tour the school with a pupil on a visit which lasts approximately two hours.   Alternatively you can visit us on an Open Day.

After this, the submission of a completed registration form and fee secures a place on one of the school lists.  Within two years of arrival at Canford, a confirmation fee is then payable.

Admission in all cases is finally dependent upon the academic standard shown under exam conditions and a satisfactory Head’s report from the previous school.

Canford considers every potential pupil on an equal basis.

CHANGE TO OUR 13+ ADMISSIONS PROCESS

From July 2011, the entry process for admission at 13+ will change.   All new registrations will be placed on the Headmaster's List and be invited to an assessment day in Year 7.  For further information, please click here

The school was rated outstanding in all areas with no recommendations for improvement by Ofsted in June 2011, while the ISI (Independent Schools' Inspectorate)report commented:

‘ Canford is a vibrant and successful school, which meets its aims and provides a good education for its pupils’. ‘The School sees academic matters as of primary importance, not only as a ladder to university and careers but as a source of pleasure and personal growth…..breadth is seen by the school as an essential feature of the education it offers and it emphasises the importance of exposing young people to a very wide range of academic, sporting and artistic opportunities.'

'This is a very special school. Superb facilities in an almost matchlessly lovely environment; first rate teaching with pupils who really do seem to find joy through achievement. A school of opportunities with windows open to the world outside. Unpretentious and sensitive, at ease with itself but without a trace of smugness. A school which can hold its own with the most popular in the country but one which has, perhaps, benefited from not being fashionable. The question is, for how long will that bonus remain with them?'
